# Formulation - where the thing gets made.

## Mrs. Beeton's Still-Room is where we brew.

Before there were laboratories, there were still-rooms — the room in every great English house where the lady of the house made **cordials, preserves, perfumes, medicines, herbal remedies, beauty preparations, and prepared foods.** Recipes. Measurements. Sensory panels before anyone called them that. Standards. Notebooks. The pre-industrial ancestor of every single CPG category we work in today.

Isabella Beeton — Mrs. Beeton — was the first great systematizer of the room. Her 1861 **Book of Household Management** was the recipe book that set the standard for two generations of English kitchens. Warm, methodical, patient, ferociously competent.

Mrs. Beeton's Still-Room is where our formulation work happens. Not much has changed in two centuries except the chromatography.

## Who's carrying the notebook?

The room is run by a **[PhD nutritionist and Certified Executive Chef](https://www.myns2.com/about-us)** with more than two decades in supplements, functional foods, functional beverages, personal care, and the messy overlap between them. She has:

- Formulated and launched over 283 CPG products in the market today.
- Formulated globally for Herbalife (probiotics, 89 countries), BASF (sustainable Omega-3, meat production, dietary supplements), PL Developments (VMS + functional food across North American retail).
- Run global R&D taskforces on Omega-3 sourcing and sustainability.
- Written the science for clinical trials on microbiome and protein bio-utilization.
- Formulated and launched: 9 Practitioner brand SKUs, 16 THC/CBD brands, 17 petfood SKUs, 11 beverage brands, 122 snacks, and more.
- Created Obesity Management and Gastric Bypass Medical Menus and Dietary Systems for ThedaCare Health Systems.
- Cooked medically-mandated food for two hospital systems and their patients before that.

That is the person at the bench. Not "a formulator we bring in." The bench.

# What we do here:

## New CPG formulation.

From concept brief to finished formula. Ingredient architecture. Function-first design. Sensory. Stability. Scale-up notes. Regulatory read at every stage. Cost-in-a-glass math done honestly. Bench-card documentation that a co-manufacturer can actually run without translation.

## Existing CPG reformulation.

Driven by cost, driven by performance, driven by regulatory pressure, driven by a repositioning that has outrun the old recipe. We take the current formula apart on the bench, name what's working and what isn't, and rebuild only what needs rebuilding. Sometimes the answer is a full redesign. Sometimes the answer is a one-ingredient swap that changes the whole product.

## Categories we know cold:

Vitamins, minerals, supplements (VMS). Functional food. Functional beverages. Pet food. Probiotics. Hemp and CBD. Personal care and beauty. Senior nutrition. Halal, kosher, and other certification-driven formulations. Sustainable and regenerative sourcing. Anywhere the ingredient story, the science, and the shelf are the same conversation.

# What comes out of the Still:

- **A finished recipe** — with the reasoning next to every number.
- **A bench card** the co-manufacturer can actually run.
- **Sensory and stability data** — real, documented, honest.
- **A regulatory read, labels, claims, legal claims review, and more** for the market you're entering.
- **Cost-in-a-glass math** — the honest one, not the marketing one.
- **Substitution playbooks** — what to do when an ingredient goes on allocation, which is a question of “when”, not “if.”

## What does NOT happen in Mrs. Beeton's Still-Room:

- It isn't a co-manufacturer. We hand you a recipe and a bench card. Someone else runs the tanks.
- It isn't a claims-writing service. We work with our legal teams to verify claims, marketing, clinical study references, and regulatory statements for the products we formulate.
- It isn't a lab-on-retainer. Every project has a defined end.
- It isn't for the "make me a gummy that does everything" brief. That isn't a formulation; it's a fantasy. We'll send you to [Mahna RPM](https://www.myns2.com/mahna-rpm) to refine the vision before formulating.

# How Mrs. Beeton's Still-Room connects to the rest of the heliosphere

- Downstream of the [Mahna](https://www.myns2.com/mahna-rpm) — the plan tells us what has to exist.
- Downstream of or adjacent to [Geppetto’s Workshop](https://www.myns2.com/geppettos-workshop) — the brand doctrine tells us what the product has to “be” on the tongue, on the skin, in the bloodstream, and on the shelf.
- Upstream of [Appleseed's Orchard](https://www.myns2.com/appleseeds-orchard) — the finished recipe goes to the operators who take it to scale.

# How the Mahna RPM drives Mrs. Beeton's Still-Room

The [Mahna RPM](https://www.myns2.com/mahna-rpm) sits at the gravitational center of our practice—the vortex that aligns every strategy, brand, and ingredient before a single beaker is filled. In Mrs. Beeton’s Still-Room, formulation never happens in a vacuum or off a generic trend deck. The Mahna’s geometry dictates the exact physical requirements of the product: its commercial rationale, its target margin, its regulatory bounds, the precise job it must do on the shelf, and the exact needs consumers actually have – beyond what they buy.

Because formulation is locked into the Mahna’s orbit from day one, we eliminate the classic handoff losses that kill most CPG launches. Strategy doesn't write a promise the bench can't deliver, and the bench doesn't formulate a masterpiece that procurement can't afford. The packaging team has drafts of ideas that aren’t usable.

## The three coordinates of the Mahna come in the door with the raw beaker:

- **Rhythm** tells the Still-Room the physical cadence the formula has to hold. A recipe formulated for a daily morning ritual is a different animal from a recipe formulated for a high-velocity functional shot. Rhythm dictates whether the flavor curve hits in two seconds or lingers for ten, whether active ingredients deliver an immediate burst or a sustained release, and whether the supply chain demands a thirty-day fresh profile or a two-year ambient shelf life. Get the rhythm wrong and the product fights the engager's daily routine or breaks down in the warehouse before it ever reaches the shelf.
- **Position** hands the Still-Room the Alternative-To. The shopper's current default on the shelf, and the reason they reach for it. Every recipe formulated here is built against something—not as an act of hostility, but as an act of coordinates. You cannot formulate a product into a category without knowing what the incumbent recipe contains, where competitors are quietly fairy-dusting their active payload, and what sensory or functional seam the shopper has learned to walk around. The Mahna finds the seam. The Still-Room walks into it with an unshakeable formula.
- **Motion** hands the Still-Room the ninety-day sequence. What has to be true about the bench card when it hits the co-manufacturer's mixing tanks on day one. What has to be true by day thirty, when the first production run clears real-world stability and reorders land. What has to be true by day ninety, when the cost-in-a-glass math holds up in the P&L and the formula still tastes as fresh as it did at the bench. The Still-Room formulates recipes that hit those three marks in the right order—because the commercialization plan already exists before the first active ingredient is weighed.

The prescience the Mahna provides is what makes the Still-Room's work load-bearing chemistry instead of a kitchen experiment. A formula created without a plan is a fantasy recipe that collapses in a co-packer's tank or burns through your margin. A formula built with a plan is a physical commitment that scales cleanly, keeps its promises to the body, and stands on retail shelves with unshakeable stability.

## The Mahna tells us what the product has to do. The Still-Room tells us what the product has to be. Neither room works alone.

##  The plan tells us what has to exist; the Still-Room builds the physical reality to match.

![Resolutionism. MYNS2](https://www.myns2.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Resolutionism.%20MYNS2.jpg?width=800&height=737&name=Resolutionism.%20MYNS2.jpg "Resolutionism. MYNS2")

## **A formula created without Resolutionism is a fantasy recipe.**

It may clear a first production run. It may sell for a quarter. But the instability is already in the emulsion, and the moment warehouse temperatures shift or supply chains tighten, the product breaks down at exactly the places we could have formulated differently and didn't.

## **A formula built with Resolutionism is an unshakeable recipe.**

It scales cleanly in the mixing tanks, delivers real bioavailability to the body, builds lifetime customer trust, and holds its physical integrity through weather and market shifts nobody at the launch meeting could have predicted.

## That is the whole difference, and it is the reason Mrs. Beeton’s Still-Room exists.

# **How the Still-Room is steeped in Resolutionism—and why it’s critical for brand success**

**[Resolutionism](https://www.myns2.com/resolutionism-for-business)** is our operating discipline, asserting that every crossing—including the moment a customer tastes, smells, or swallows your product—must leave the value network more capable than it found it. A formula isn't just a chemical compound; it is a physical commitment. When a product is built on cheap filler, hidden active-ingredient dusting, or laundered supply chains, it introduces a structural flaw into the brand. The P&L might look fine for a quarter, but the product quietly degrades customer trust and category health.

Steeping the Still-Room in Resolutionism means we formulate for structural balance. We balance the physical and commercial reality of the product—its taste, stability, efficacy, and margin—with the obligations owed to the engager, the co-manufacturer, and the supply chain. A brand built on a Resolutionist formula doesn't rely on marketing flimflam or consumer trickery to hold its position. It stands on the shelf with an unshakeable physical truth, delivering a genuine experience that turns first-time buyers into lifelong advocates.

#### The test asks three questions of every formulation:

- **Does the formula require an axiom violation to work?** Meaning: does the recipe only balance if the engager doesn't look too closely at the back panel or question the active payload? Manufactured efficacy ("fairy-dusting 0.1 mg of an botanical extract just to scream it on the front panel"), dark formulation ("masking off-notes with massive synthetic flavor loads while calling the product clean"), laundered sourcing upstream ("we hide where the ingredients were farmed or how the extract was processed"), or a claim structure that reads clinically clean on a slide and falls apart at effective human dosing. If the answer is yes, we don't formulate it. We say so out loud, and we decline.
- **Do the two ledgers agree on one page?** The commercial ledger — what the recipe does for cost-in-a-glass, for co-packer tank throughput, for retail margins, for the founder — has to sit next to the sovereign ledger — what the recipe does for the engager's body, for supplier fairness, for environmental sustainability, for long-term physical trust — and both have to balance without either being asked to look away. If they don't, we adjust the bench card until they do. This is not ethics as marketing. This is chemistry as engineering. A product whose two ledgers disagree is a product that will require a silent recall, a co-manufacturer dispute, or a wave of brutal Amazon reviews in year three, and everybody in the boardroom will pretend to be surprised.
- **Would we stand behind this formula if we had to defend it out loud, on the record, to a skeptical biochemist or a sharp regulatory auditor?** If the answer is only with modifiers or excuses, the recipe isn't finished. Back to the bench.

# Mahna & Resolutionism in the Still-Room

The Four Tenets of Resolutionism aren't wall art or corporate flimflam; they are the operational scaffolding of how we formulate every recipe on the bench.

## **Tenet 1: Create, Don't Extract**

## **Tenet 2: Align, Don't Dominate**

## **Tenet 3: See Reality, Not Illusion**

## **Tenet 4: Integrate Tension, Don't Deny It**

## A formula built on all four tenets is a recipe that doesn't require defending.

### It defends itself.

It defends itself—on the tongue, in the body, in the co-manufacturer's mixing tanks, and in the quiet moment an engager reaches for the product for the second time. That is the whole point of the Still-Room. Everything else — the bench cards, the flavor systems, the active payloads, the regulatory reads, the cost-in-a-glass math — is scaffolding around those four properties. If the four hold, the scaffolding does its job. If any of the four don't hold, no amount of scaffolding will save the product from the market that is patiently waiting to find the seam.
